Chinese New Year Celebration
Thursday, February 25th, 2010Last weekend we had big plans to celebrate Chinese New Year. With 3/4 of the kids just getting over tummy bugs, we just weren’t up to going downtown for the dragon/lion parade. Bummer. We’ll make it one of these days. Will was a little scared of the idea of a dancing dragon anyway, even though he knows it’s just people inside a big puppet.
We did make it to our playgroup’s little celebration at a local Chinese restaurant, though. Will helped me pick out some chocolate coins from the store, and Jack helped me stuff them in the “lucky money envelopes” – 6 coins each. (It has to be an even number – but not 4, because that means death!) We exchanged envelopes with all of the kids in playgroup and had a great time sorting through all of the loot in the car on the way home. Then Margaret & Will walked around the cul-de-sac and passed our lucky money envelopes to the kids in our neighborhood.
Margaret and Willl dressed in matching silk outfits that we bought in China, and Margaret even dressed her doll and Will’s puppy for the occasion. They looked so cute! This is the last year for these outfits, though – the kids are just growing too fast! Mama will have to find somewhere local to get outfits for next Chinese New Year!
Happy Year of the Tiger!

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010It’s Wednesday morning, and we’ve had to cancel speech again. Our poor speech therapist – good thing she’s not counting on us alone to pay her bills. It seems like we cancel just as often as we make it to speech these days. The boys and I have been passing around some rotten bug – or we’ve all had something different. It’s hard to tell. But now it’s Sam’s turn to be feeling yucky. Hopefully it will pass soon. I’m having a hard time keeping up with his laundry.
I realized yesterday that Jack’s and Will’s birthdays are coming up fast! So today we’re going to stay in, stay warm, and start planning some details of their parties. Will already told he that he wants chocolate cupcakes with NO icing. He is excited to have his party at the fire station, but doesn’t want to invite anyone from his class except Gabe — and Jack can’t come either. I tried to explain that it’s not much of a party with just 2 kids. Not sure what we’re doing for Jack’s party yet. I’m pretty sure it will involve guns or video games in some way, though.
Here’s Sam enjoying his favorite teething toy.
